Ostriches are another animal I've painted a few times over the years. I love their shape, the colour of their plumage; they are weighty yet graceful and elegant birds.
The opulence of the title is illustrated by the fact that the ostrich is set against a rich, dark green curtain in what we can imagine is a comfortable and large home. Ostrich feathers are often used for ornaments and in fashion which is probably why I associate ostriches with the opulence and decided to use it as the title of this work.
I love the use of bright pink of the ostrich against the emerald green of the curtain. I wanted the colours and lines to feel luxurious and opulent as well.
This piece is painted on two separate layers of art glass which have been mounted with a 1cm gap between panel to create 3D effect.
Acrylic on non-reflective and UV resistant glass.
