Since starting the Glass Menagerie I wanted to create an underwater piece. I thought having fish and sea plants on different layers of glass would look amazing and I’m so pleased I’ve been able to complete this piece. I tried to harmonise the colours, using muted purple and green for the starfish and plant to allow the bright yellow fish to pop out. The piece is painted on three layers of glass: the majority of the swirly plant in the background, the fish and starfish in the middle ground and another strand of the plant in the foreground.
As a child I loved watching fish tanks, there was a big one in my first school with plenty of different fish flitting in and out of plastic seaweeds and mock greek ruins. I wanted this painting to look like the inside of an aquarium and really enjoyed creating it. It is small enough to brighten up any corner of your home and would make a wonderful addition to your collection!
